Spaniard reveals desire to play with countryman
Arsenal playmaker Santi Cazorla has urged the club to sign Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas over the Summer so that he could link up with his countryman at club level.
The Spaniard has admitted he’d love to see the goalkeeper at the Emirates Stadium, but knows it will be a tough ask to persuade him to leave the Bernabeu after spending his whole career there.
Casillas‘ future has been under the microscope in recent months, with Liverpool and Arsenal reportedly interested, but in recent weeks, the veteran seems to have settled back into life in Spain and in Madrid.
The shot-stopper endured a tough time in Madrid when Jose Mourinho was in charge, but since Carlo Ancelotti has taken over, he’s been back in the first-team picture on a regular basis.
Madrid’s Interest in De gea
However, there are still fears surrounding his future due to Madrid’s reported interest in Manchester United number-one David De Gea.
The Spaniard has been superb at Old Trafford for the past two years and he’s been heavily linked with replacing Casillas for the foreseeable future.
If De Gea does complete a mega-money move to Madrid, that could make Casillas available, and Cazorla would love to see him in North London but he knows that it will be a tough ask to drag him away from Madrid.
Cazorla wants Casillas
“These rumours appeared when Iker suffered a delicate situation and speculation arose that he could come to Arsenal,” Cazorla told Spanish paper Marca.
“It would be a pleasure to have him here, but I don’t see him leaving Madrid.
“He has said many times that his wish is to remain in Madrid.”
