The striker’s future has been a major talking point

The Independent’s Chief Football Correspondent Sam Wallace has insisted that Charlie Austin will remain a Queens Park Rangers player this season.

The England international centre-forward has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League, after he suffered relegation to the Championship with the West London club last season.

However, Rs’ boss Chris Ramsey has remained adamant that the club would only sell Austin for ÂŁ15 million. This estimation is yet to met by a club in this transfer window.

Confirmation materialised on Twitter

The Independent’s Wallace took to the social media website Twitter to break the news, he Tweeted: “Charlie Austin will stay at QPR this window. Likely to see out his contract that expires summer of 2016.”

Wallace also confirmed that the last official bid for the 26-year old was from Crystal Palace; Austin subsequently turned down the move. Alan Pardew had highlighted Austin as a potential replacement for Glenn Murray who has joined Bournemouth today.

The former Swindon Town and Burnley man looks set to run down his contract at Loftus Road and leave on a free at the end of the current season. But QPR may look to cash in on him in January, which still means they will have him for at least half a season.

Austin scored 18 Premier League goals last term.
