Chelsea and Man Utd’s prospects of signing midfielders Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal doubtful after Andrea Conte resigns

All of a sudden Chelsea and Manchester United’s chances of signing Juventus midfielders Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal have become doubtful after veteran manager Antonio Conte resigned from his managerial position at the Turin giants.

The 44-year-old led Juventus to Serie A glory in three consecutive seasons helping them restore their reputation as Italy’s strongest club. However, an announcement was declared on the club’s official website last night revealing the prompt departure of the Conte. Italy coach Cesare Prandelli quit as national manager after a horrific World Cup performance in Brazil that saw the Italians fail to qualify out of their group, and it is believed that Conte was in deep talks with the Italian F.A. regarding his potential appointment as Italy head coach.

However, the shock exit has put a massive doubt surrounding the possibility of either Chelsea or Manchester United signing any of the two Juventus players. Despite the doubts, Chelsea boss Jose Mourihno has claimed that he is willing to splash a monstrous £60 million for French international Pogba, who joined Juventus on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2012.

Vidal has also been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, as newly-appointed manager Louis Van Gaal looks to partner recent signing Ander Herrera in the centre of midfield. The two Premier League sides will now have to wait for the Serie A club to appoint a new manager and see if the deals collapse should the new boss reject all offers for the players.
