The forward may stay in the Premier League

Chelsea are set to open talks with AS Monaco this week over the possible signing of Radamel Falcao.

The Colombia international spent the recent season on loan at Manchester United, but was deemed a disappointment after scoring just four Premier League goals.

Despite such poor form, it seems the Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho is keen on signing Falcao, as he needs a striker to replace to outgoing Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

How much will he cost?

According to reports in France, Chelsea are on the brink of signing Falcao for ÂŁ25 million. This is because the Ligue 1 financial powerhouses Monaco want to earn back at least half of the ÂŁ50 million they paid Atletico Madrid for the attacker’s services back in 2013.

However, Chelsea want to pay a lower transfer fee than the expected ÂŁ25 million, as they will have to compensate for Falcao’s huge wages. He currently earns around ÂŁ265,000-a-week on his Monaco deal, which is a major factor in why they want to sell him.

After arriving at Old Trafford with huge expectations, the 29-year old only scored six goals in 32 appearances in all competitions for Manchester United last campaign.

The French media also claim that if Chelsea want to sign Falcao they will have to fight off competition from Valencia and Champions League finalists Juventus.
