Blues could be set to make major announcement as soon as today
Chelsea could announce Antonio Conte as their new manager as soon as today, according to reports.
Conte is strongly expected to take over at Stamford Bridge, replacing Guus Hiddink at the end of the season, and according to reports, the announcement could come as soon as today.
Chelsea have been without a permanent boss since firing Jose Mourinho back in December, and although Hiddink has done a great job steadying the ship, he’s adamant he doesn’t want to stay past this season.
It’s emerged that Roman Abramovich initially wanted Diego Simeone from Atletico Madrid and Jorge Sampaoli from Chile, but the former remained loyal to the La Liga side, and Sampaoli fell away after Conte was available.
Conte To Step Down
Conte will be in charge of Italy during the European Championships, but he is set to inform the Italian FA that he will be leaving his role after the competition, in order to take over at the Premier League club.
The Italian has held several talks with officials from Chelsea and he’s ready to make a return to club management.
With Conte informing the Italian FA of his future, Chelsea could then announce him as their next manager soon after.
