Chelsea are now the favourites to sign World Cup winning midfielder Sami Khedira after it appeared Arsene Wenger is unwilling to meet the German’s wage demands.
It’s understood that Khedira is holding out for £150,000 a week which Arsenal are not prepared to pay having just agreed a deal with Alexis Sanchez for a similar amount. However, this amount would be no problem for Chelsea which move them into pole position for the player.
Mourinho knows all about the 27 year-old having managed him during his spell as Real Madrid manager, although the recent signing of Cesc Fabregas and the impressive debut season from Nemanja Matic suggest Khedira wouldn’t be guaranteed a starting berth at Stamford Bridge, despite them being favourites to sign him.
Madrid are willing to listen to offers for the midfielder after having just signed his international compatriot Toni Kroos in a £20 million raid from Bayern Munich earlier this week.
Having joined the Club in 2010 from Stuttgart after impressing in the World Cup that summer, Khedira has just one year left on his contract at the Bernabeu which means any transfer free would be significantly lower with the risk of losing him on a free next summer.
