Antonio Conte has hinted that he was overruled by Chelsea’s board over Nathan Ake’s transfer to Bournemouth.

Ake was recalled from his loan run with Bournemouth back in January to help ease the club’s fears over an injury to Marcos Alonso.

When Conte was asked if it was his decision to sell the defender, he replied: ‘My answer is always the same. I can give my opinion to the club but then the last decision is for the club. This must be very clear.

‘To play regularly, it’s not simple, it means one between Azpi [Azpilicueta], Daivd Luiz and [Gary] Cahill don’t play, it’s not simple. ‘I think when you decide to stay in a great team and you have to accept a big challenge and show you’re better than another player.’

The 22-year-old  only two Premier League appearances for the Blues and was subsequently sold to Bournemouth for £20 million in the summer. But despite barely featuring under Conte, the Italian has suggested that he wanted to keep the Netherlands international.
