Blues have a one-week period where they can recall defender

Reading have confirmed that Chelsea can recall Michael Hector if they want to in January.

There have been suggestions that Jose Mourinho will look to terminate the defender’s season-long loan to the Championship outfit in the hope that he can help the Blues‘ current defensive nightmares.

The 23-year-old signed for the Premier League champions over the summer during Transfer Deadline Day, but was immediately loaned back to his former-club, who have managed by ex-Blue coach Steve Clarke.

It was Royals executive Samrit Thanakanchanasut who suggested that Mourinho wanted to recall the centre-back, but at the same time he said it cannot be done due to the season-long loan contract between the two clubs.

However, Clarke has now revealed that should Chelsea want to recall Hector, they will be able to do so in January, but will only have a week to make up their minds.

Recall Option

“Chelsea haven’t been in touch with me and as far as I know they haven’t been in touch with the club,” the Reading boss said.

“There is a recall clause in January, which there is in most season long loans. It’s not for the whole month, but there is a week in January when they could take him back – if they want him.

“But I’ve had no indication that Chelsea want to take Michael back in January.”
