Chelsea chase Inter’s Icardi

Chelsea are looking to beat Liverpool and London rivals Tottenham to the signature of striker Mauro Icardi.

The Argetine’s current club Inter Milan are reportedly demanding ÂŁ30million for the striker, if they are to consider letting him leave. However, Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea believe they can negotiate the Italian giants down to around ÂŁ20million.

With Fernando Torres’ departure to AC Milan via a loan spell at boyhood club Atletico Madrid complete, Chelsea are left with only three recognised strikers (Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba). The Blues will be looking for a long term-replacement for Drogba, who is expected to retire at the end of the season to take up a new role at the club.

Icardi has now emerged as one of the front runners to move to Stamford Bridge, alongside the man in demand Wilfried Bony.

However, despite such interest Icardi has expressed his happiness at Inter Milan since moving from Sampdoria.

He said “I am happy in Milan, as I adapted well to the city and to Inter. Without doubt having so many Argentines in the squad helped, although there are fewer of them around this year.”

He also added “I chose Inter because they are a top club and am truly happy with my decision. They did everything to get me here.”

The 21-year old has averaged a goal every two games in Serie A this season, scoring eight goals in 16 appearances.
