Mourinho is in search of a new left-back

Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Real Madrid full-back Fabio Coentrao in the summer.

The Portuguese international will apparently move to Stamford Bridge for around £14 million in the up and coming transfer window to be united with his former manager.

The Blues’ boss Mourinho signed Coentrao from Benfica in 2011 for £25 million when he was the head coach at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The two look as if they may link up again as Coentrao has fell out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti, having only made 17 appearances for club and country this campaign. His only goal was a 2-1 win for Portugal in a home Euro 2016 qualifier against Serbia.

A deal would suit both Coentrao and Mourinho because Coentrao would assumably get more playing time in West London but also because Mourinho is in search of a left-back.

Filipe Luis hasn’t impressed

Cesar Azpilicueta is Chelsea’s current first team left full-back, as Filipe Luis hasn’t impressed his boss since his transfer from Atletico Madrid at the beginning of the season.

Now it is rumoured that Luis will return to Atleti whilst Mourinho lines up his replacement. He also has a keen interest in West Ham United’s Aaron Cresswell as well.

However, it seems the 27-year old Coentrao is now the main target for the potential Premier League Champions.

Manchester United have been consistently linked with the Real Madrid man over recent years but it looks as if Chelsea will be the English club that secures his signature.
