Blues made three personal phone calls to FC Barcelona winger
Chelsea Football Club made three personal phone calls to FC Barcelona star Pedro in order to convince him to snub a move to Manchester United.
The two Premier League sides were battling it out for the Spaniard, and it was heavily expected that he’d be on his way to Old Trafford in order to replace Angel Di Maria.
However, at the last minute, United withdrew their interest in the 28-year-old and reports emerged that he was on a plane to London in order to complete a Chelsea medical.
Louis Van Gaal withdrew his interest in the last minute despite Ed Woodward being in Spain reportedly holding talk with Barcelona officials.
Three Phone Calls
According to reports, Chelsea made three phone calls to Pedro which made him favour a move to Stamford Bridge.
It’s reported that Jose Mourinho made a direct call to the winger convincing him to join them, before Cesc Fabregas also spoke to the winger.
The duo played together at the Nou Camp and remained good friends despite Fabregas leaving for Chelsea, and the midfielder played a huge role in convincing Pedro to reject United’s approaches.
The third and final call came from Fabregas’ partner, who urged Pedro’s partner to pick London over Manchester.
It’s thought that these three phone calls from the Chelsea camp helped Pedro make up his mind and choose Chelsea over United.
