Chelsea defender denies return to La Liga

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta has spoken of his loyalty to Chelsea after rumours surfaced of potential interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Spanish international full-back has impressed since his move to London in 2012, and has become a firm fan favourite with the Stamford Bridge faithful with his committed defensive displays.

His form of late has even encouraged both Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher to name him as the current best defender in the league.

But ‘Dave’ was quick to deny the rumours of an exit from Chelsea, and spoke of his happiness with the club.

“I am very happy here. I follow La Liga but personally I do not think about returning there. Now I’m really enjoying London. I prefer the Premier League.

“Those words (from Neville and Carragher) flatter me. But also they make me eager to improve. I have always worked to be one of the best and it is clear that the more you achieve the more pressure you have.

“But I still can improve a lot. Whenever I see a game, I tried to look at other players who play in my position because they teach me things to improve myself.

“I am lucky to train with great defenders and they are also an example for me.”
