John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic worried about long-term status

Chelsea defenders John Terry and Branislav Ivanovic are reportedly worried about their long-term futures, according to reports.

Due to the club’s policy, both defenders are on 12-month rolling contracts at Stamford Bridge because of being over 30-years-old, and it’s been suggested that their poor start to this season has been because they are fearing for their futures.

Both Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard left the Blues in recent years after not being rewarded a new contract, and Terry and Ivanovic are fearing the same fate.

The duo have had poor starts to the new campaign, with Ivanovic suffering at right-back and Terry not being used as regularly this season by Jose Mourinho.

Contract Sagas

Terry and Ivanovic’s contracts expire next summer and according to reports, that is why they are putting in below-par performances as they are worried about their futures.

Due to the Bosman Ruling, overseas club can discuss a pre-contract with the duo in the New Year, but it’s believed both actually want to stay at Chelsea past the 2015/2016 season.

However, Mourinho has transfer plans in place that could push out the veterans.

Chelsea are after a new centre-back, with John Stones their main transfer target, while they are also scouting for a new right-back after Ivanovic’s shocking start to the season.
