Officials at Stamford Bridge confident of getting their man

Chelsea officials believe they are closer than ever to appointing Diego Simeone as their new permanent manager following the shock news coming out of Madrid yesterday.

Both Real and Atletico have been banned from making transfers until the summer of 2017, and officials at Stamford Bridge are hopeful that the news could persuade Simeone to leave at the end of this season.

With Atletico unable to make transfers for the next two transfer windows, the Argentine boss may be tempted to move on and start a new managerial challenge, which was in his mind anyway.

It emerged late last year that Simeone would be considering his future at the end of this season, and the transfer embargo may push him further out the door.

Chelsea Want Simeone

Chelsea have highlighted the Argentinian as their next manager after giving up on Pep Guardiola, who is looking likely to join Manchester City.

Roman Abramovich wants Simeone as the club’s next permanent boss, replacing the sacked Jose Mourinho and the interim-manager Guus Hiddink.

Abramovich is confident that the transfer ban on Atletico will help persuade Simeone to the Bridge.
