Stoke City tell Chelsea and Manchester United to pay up for ‘keeper

Despite Chelsea’s confidence in landing the Bosnian shot-stopper, Stoke City are set to snub their opening offer of £6million, meaning contract talks between player and club are to be put on hold until an agreement is made.

The news of Chelsea‘s pursuit for Begovic has emerged after Chelsea sold Petr Cech yesterday. According to the Telegraph, the Blues value Begovic, 28, at a cut price of £6million as he enters the final year of his contract.

However, Stoke are prepared to hold out for a fee of around £8million and are working towards a deal which sees a Chelsea player move in the opposite direction to the Britannia Stadium on loan for the season.

Asmir Begovic offered Stoke an ultimatum in April as he called on the club to prove their ambition in a bid to persuade him to sign a new contract.  Stoke are yet to tie down the wanted man to a new deal with his future looking elsewhere.

Begovic was the subject of an offer from Aston Villa but is understood to have indicated that he is up for the challenge at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United are also keeping tabs on the former Portsmouth goalkeeper as they face the prospect of losing David De Gea to Real Madrid this summer.

He has come under the spotlight after another impressive season between the sticks for Stoke, having earned 7 clean sheets. In all Begovic is expected to move to West London before the summer is out.
