Stoke City goalkeeper on Jose Mourinho’s radar

Chelsea are looking to sign Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic as a replacement for Petr Cech who looks certain to leave Stamford Bridge.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been heavily linked with moves away from the Britannia Stadium this summer with the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool monitoring the 6’6 goalkeeper.

However, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is desperate to sign the 28-year-old as a replacement for Cech, who looks to be moving to London rivals Arsenal.

A majority of bookmakers have priced Chelsea to sign Begovic at 1/2 in this summer transfer window.

The Bosnian looks to be leaving the Potters before the new Premier League season, with him being priced at 8/1 to stay with Mark Hughes’ side.

Stoke’s chief executive Tony Scholes recently revealed that he is worried that Begovic may already be in negotiations with a range of top-six clubs.

Chief Exec Reveals Doubts

On Begovic’s situation, Scholes said: “We would very much like him to extend his contract, but I think Asmir has said it himself, he is keeping his options open and seeing what might be available for him.

“If I’m speaking frankly, I don’t know whether or who he might be speaking to.

“That’s not accusing him of anything, it’s just saying that’s the reality.” he added.

Meanwhile, Chelsea want to fill the void of veteran goalkeeper Cech, who is on the verge of moving to the Emirates.

The Czech Republic international has agreed personal terms with the Gunners, and it is just a matter of days before the signing is announced, according to Sky Sports.

However, a transfer fee is yet to be agreed between Arsenal and Chelsea for the 33-year-old.
