Chelsea eye Mitrovic as Remy replacement

Chelsea are preparing to hijack Newcastle United’s attempts to sign Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic as they want a replacement for Loic Remy.

The 20-year-old is wanted by Newcastle and Swansea as well as Premier League champions Chelsea but Anderlecht have slapped a £15million price-tag on the Serbia international.

The forward, who scored 23 goals last campaign, wants to play Champions League football next season and is demanding a £60,000-a-week deal, which has put the Blues as the favourites to sign the Serbian.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is looking for replacements for striker Loic Remy, who is set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after finding chances limited in the starting team last term.

The contract of veteran forward Didier Drogba expired at the end of last season and was not renewed and Remy is expected to join West Ham United or go back to France before the new season starts.

Mourinho is on the verge of finalising the deal for Monaco star Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan but wants another permanent signing who is a proven goal-scorer to replace Remy.

The Belgian Pro League star was closely monitored by Chelsea last season and is in the running to become a Chelsea player alongside QPR’s Charlie Austin and Aston Villa star Christian Benteke.
