Chelsea eye move for Danny Drinkwater alternative

Antonio Conte is apparently keen om signing Everton star Idrissa Gueye if the Blues fail to complete a deal for England international Danny Drinkwater.

Danny Drinkwater is reported to be a top target and Chelsea have already seen a £30million bid rejected by the Foxes.

According to the Daily Mail, Conte is now searching the market for alternative midfield targets and is an admirer of Senegal international Gueye.

The Italian boss has been left annoyed by Chelsea’s summer transfer activity despite £140million being spent on Alvaro Morata, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Antonio Rudiger.

Conte’s search for a midfielder comes weeks after Chelsea agreed to sell Nemanja Matic to rivals Manchester United.

‘The club is trying its best in the transfer market to improve our squad but I must be happy,’ former Italy boss Conte said on Sunday.

‘We only have to think on the pitch and not to give answers to people.

‘This moment is not easy for us but I am very happy to have this group of players because they showed me great commitment, desire and will to improve after a great season.

‘We only need to focus on the pitch, outside does not matter for us.’
