Crystal Palace possible option

Chelsea are tracking Crystal Palace centre-back Scott Dann as a potential long-term replacement for John Terry.

The veteran centre-back is set to become a free agent over the summer, and with no contract talks being held within Stamford Bridge, it’s thought this could be the last season for Terry at Chelsea Football Club.

Terry had a mixed weekend, scoring an own-goal and also the equaliser in the last minute, against Everton yesterday afternoon, but off the pitch, he could be entering his final few months as a Blue.

Due to his age and the club policy, Terry can only be offered 12-month rolling contracts, and with reports coming out that Branislav Ivanovic has already agreed a new contract verbally, alarm bells are ringing regarding Terry’s future.

Dann to replace Terry?

Should Terry leave the club this summer, they could attempt to lure Dann away from Crystal Palace.

According to reports, Chelsea scouts have watched the Palace centre-back in almost every game so far this season and have been impressed with the consistency of the 27-year-old.

Dann signed a contract extension at Selhurst Park last year, agreeing to a five-year deal, but with Chelsea circling, he could be ready to quit the Eagles and earn an impressive pay-rise at their London rivals.

It’s reported that Dann is currently on ÂŁ60k-a-week and although Chelsea would be prepared to possibly double that, the defender is reluctant to leave Palace due to his good relationship with manager Alan Pardew.

Marquinhos and John Stones are two other possible candidates as Chelsea saw formal bids for both of them rejected over the summer.
