Summer swoop for Rickie Lambert?
Chelsea are reportedly showing interest in Liverpool flop Rickie Lambert as they eye a replacement for Didier Drogba.
The Ivorian striker could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this Summer with his contract expiring and no contract talks in the pipeline, and Jose Mourinho is still undecided on whether to keep the veteran at the club.
Due to his age, Drogba would only be offered a one-year extension at The Bridge, but could secure a long-term deal elsewhere if he chooses to move away.
If Mourinho does allow the striker to leave, that would mean Chelsea would only have two strikers in Loic Remy and Diego Costa, but according to reports this morning, The Blues could make a stunning move for Lambert from Anfield.
The former-Saints striker has struggled to settle at Liverpool and has failed to make an impression during his first season with his boyhood club.
As well as Lambert, Mourinho is also considering Tottenham Hotspur‘s Emmanuel Adebayor as they eye cheap potential strikers to come in and play back-up to Remy and Costa.
It’s not understood whether Liverpool would sell Lambert to Chelsea, but it is expected that Brendan Rodgers will be signing new strikers over the Summer after he has admitted his disappointment at his current options.
