Premier League champions ready to spend £62m on duo

Chelsea are ready to strengthen their side by adding Pedro and John Stones in a deal worth £62million.

The Blues have started their title defence poorly, picking up just one point from their first two games, and Jose Mourinho is ready to react by bringing in new faces.

Chelsea have been relatively quiet so far in the window, signing just Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan, Asmir Begovic and Baba Rahman, but according to reports, a double signing is in the pipeline.

Stones Wanted

Mourinho wants to bring in Stones from Everton, and after having three formal bids rejected, he’s ready to up his bid to around £40m in order to secure the deal.

The Premier League champions have offered £20m, £25m and £30m over the summer, but Everton have rejected all offers claiming the young centre-back is not for sale at any price.

However, that won’t stop Chelsea trying again with a fourth and final bid, worth a record breaking £40m.

If they do launch a formal offer worth that much, Stones will become the most expensive defender in British football and the second most expensive defender ever, only behind David Luiz, who moved for £50m to Paris Saint-Germain.

Pedro Targeted

As for the other £22m in the double-raid, Chelsea want to hijack Manchester United‘s move for FC Barcelona star Pedro.

The Spaniard has a £22m release clause, which no-one has activated as of yet, and Chelsea are ready to step in ahead of United by securing the deal as quickly as possible.

It’s believed United were trying to sign the winger for around £18m, with the La Liga champions rejecting their offer.
