Chelsea are looking at the possibility of signing midfielder Marco Verratti as they look to put their stumbling season back on track in January.

The Italian has appeared to have been identified by boss Jose Mourinho as someone who can add some more flair and guile to the Chelsea midfield, with the Blues lacking that at the moment as they sit 15th in the Premier League.

However, they will face competition from Manchester United and Barcelona for the 23-year-old, but he could be considered for sale by PSG as they look to free-up a squad space for French international Paul Pogba.

Verratti, who is just 4 games shy of 100 PSG appearances, would command a big transfer fee as he’s seen as one of Europe’s top midfielders and despite his young age, Barcelona legend Xavi sang his praises earlier this week.

“I really like Verratti,” Xavi told French TV show Canal Football Club.

“I like watching him play. I like his vision of the game, his passing game. He almost never loses the ball.

“He’s a player of exceptional ability. He would adapt perfectly if he was playing at Barcelona.”
