Blues want Bosnian on cut-price deal

Chelsea are showing shock interest in Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, and may launch a stunning £10million swoop for the Bosnian over the Summer.

Dzeko has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium to third-choice striker ever since the arrival of Wilfried Bony from Swansea City in January.

Lack of Football

Manuel Pellegrini coughed up £28m for Bony halfway through the season, and he’s expected to play a big role at the club throughout the 2015/2016 campaign.

As for Dzeko, the 29-year-old cost City nearly £30m back in 2011, but is starting to grow frustrated with the lack of first-team football. The striker managed just 22 appearances this season, and only netted four times.

Chelsea’s Interest

Despite the lack of goals and action this season, Chelsea are reportedly keen on luring him away from the Etihad, and bringing him to Stamford Bridge as back-up to Diego Costa.

As it stands, Didier Drogba is set to leave the club on a free transfer once his deal expires in June, whilst Jose Mourinho still has doubts over Loic Remy.

According to reports, The Blues are prepared to offer around £10m for the Bosnian, which would be a £20m loss for Man City if they were too accept the offer.

Competition for Signature

Chelsea aren’t the only team interested in the 29-year-old however, with Juventus, Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg all keen on signing the target-man.

Other Possible Option

Mourinho has other striker targets in case he fails to sign Dzeko, with Charlie Austin from Queens Park Rangers being high on the list.
