Chelsea given Champions League boost

Chelsea have been given a huge boost ahead of their Champions League Quarter-Final match with French giants Paris Saint-Germain after star-defender Thiago Silva suffered a serious cheek injury at the weekend, which could see him miss BOTH legs.

The Brazilian centre-back suffered a fractured cheek-bone during his side’s match with Lorient in Ligue 1, and he is now a huge doubt for the last-eight Champions League showdown with Jose Mourinho’s men.

Fortunately for PSG, the injury doesn’t require surgery, but Silva’s fitness levels may be a worry ahead of the tie, but it is believed that he is willing to wear a face mask in order to play against the Premier League side.

In a statement, the French club insisted: ”His condition did not require surgery. The amount of time he will be out of training will depend on the evolution of pain in the coming days but his participation in the quarter finals of the Champions League should not be under threat.”
