The attacking midfielder is in high demand

Chelsea are the bookies’ favourites to sign Atletico Madrid playmaker Antoine Griezmann, after rumours sparked that his release clause was met.

The French international reportedly has a release clause of ÂŁ43.5 million in his current Atleti contract, with Blues’ boss Mourinho looking to snap him up to replace potential outgoing flop Juan Cuadrado.

Griezmann has scored 22 goals in his first season in Madrid, making him the highest scoring winger throughout all of Europe’s top divisions. Such form had attracted interest from several European giants, including the club from Stamford Bridge.

Betfair slash their odds

Several bookmakers have cut their odds on Griezmann moving to West London, assumably because many punters have placed big money on the move becoming a possibility in this summer’s transfer window.

However, Betfair are the only firm who have spoken out about why they slashed their odds on the deal happening from 7/4 to 4/5.

Betfair football trader Michael Bowers said: “It looks like the youngster’s ÂŁ43.5 million release clause may have been met as Antoine Griezmann has now been backed into odds-on to make the move to Stamford Bridge this summer.”

He also added: “The Frenchman could further bolster the attack of the league-winning squad’s armoury and more importantly, prevent any of Mourinho’s rivals from signing the talented forward.”

The 24-year old is a definite target for Mourinho, who is hoping Griezmann will swap La Liga for the Premier League.

He wants to keep the strength in depth of his title winning side, as he has to compensate for the exit of experienced striker and Chelsea legend Didier Drogba; as well as preparing for a possible return to Italy’s Serie A for the Colombian winger Cuadrado.
