Ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker set for Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea have reportedly held formal talks with free agent Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Togo international is currently without a club after being released by Tottenham Hotspur over the summer, and according to reports, he’s spoken to three Premier League clubs about a possible transfer.

Chelsea are one of them along with West Ham United and Watford.

The 31-year-old is only likely to join the club on a short-term deal, but he wants to be playing football again and is keen to remain in London.

Out of Favour at Spurs

Mauricio Pochettino released Adebayor over the summer after telling him he wasn’t in his first-team plans, which then lead to formal talks with Aston Villa and West Ham regarding a possible season-long loan.

However, both deals collapsed at the final hurdle, leaving the striker stranded at White Hart Lane.

Despite being released by the club, Adebayor is still earning his ÂŁ100k-a-week from them and will do so until he signs for a new club or until the end of the season, which is when his contract formally expires.

If any club does want to sign the Togo, they’d have to negotiate his salary with Spurs owner Daniel Levy.
