According to reports, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is interested in signing Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. Chelsea currently have David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger in central defence with the experienced Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen as back-up options. However, Sarri is not too satisfied with Chelsea’s current options in central defence and wants some more depth in the backline. Hence, he is keen to sign Skriniar who has established himself as one of Europe’s finest defenders this season.
Rated at £70 million at present, Skriniar joined Inter from Sampdoria last summer on a fee of €34 million. He has since made 54 appearances for Inter, scoring goals. Last season, he played every single minute of Inter’s Serie A campaign as the Nerazzurri came fourth and sealed their first Champions League berth in 6 years.
This season, he has made 14 appearances for the Nerazzurri and has played every single minute in each of those appearances.
However, Chelsea aren’t the only team interested in Skriniar. Manchester United have also shown interest in the Slovak. The Red Devils do not have the best of defences at the moment and Jose Mourinho is eager to sign a centre-back.
Skriniar’s current contract at Inter expires in 2022. Inter Milan want the 23-year old to sign a new contract but are reportedly unable to reach his wage demands.
