Spaniard has been frozen out at Manchester United

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

The Spaniard only joined the club in January but after refusing to play for the U-21s, Louis van Gaal has frozen him out of the first-team and refused to play him at all.

Valdes wasn’t given a club suit ahead of the new campaign and hasn’t even been given a squad number, all-but ending his career at Old Trafford.

After a proposed move to Besiktas fell through, Valdes is seemingly stuck with United, but according to reports, Chelsea could try and take him off their hands.

Courtois Blow

The Blues suffered a massive blow last week with Thibaut Courtois undergoing surgery and likely to miss the next few months, leaving the club with just two recognised goalkeepers.

Asmir Begovic will be the new number-one, with Jose Mourinho having to promote Jamal Blackman to the first-team set-up after the club sold Petr Cech to Arsenal.

However, reports in Italy have claimed that Mourinho is keen to bring Valdes to Stamford Bridge so that he can play back-up to Begovic just in case the Bosnian gets injured or suspended.

It’s not yet understood how they’d approach the deal or whether United would sell to direct-rivals, but with Valdes not in the picture at Old Trafford and Chelsea needing a ‘keeper, a deal could be arranged.
