Chelsea are in pole position to sign Mehdi Benatia, despite interest from Man United, Man City and Bayern Munich. The Blues are on the hunt for a new defender after selling David Luiz to PSG and Jose Mourinho wants Benatia.
Chelsea have already signed Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa this summer, while a fee has also been agreed for Filipe Luis. Reports in Italy are now claiming they could also be set to land the Roma ace, even though there is interest from several other clubs.
The Blues biggest threat to landing to 27-year old is Man United, who are also desperate to sign a new defender after losing Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. However, Louis Van Gaal has also been keeping an eye on Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels, so could move for him instead.
Man City had also been interested but they are instead now close to signing Eliaquim Mangala, while Bayern Munich also wanted him but they have now decided to Holger Badstuber after his return from injury.
