Chelsea will be let-off over Diego Costa’s clash with Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel as referee Mark Clattenburg saw the incident but will not include it in his match report – meaning the Football Association will not take action.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has received a big disciplinary boost it seems.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa will not face a charge by the FA even though television screenings appeared to show him lashing out at Reds centre-back Martin Skrtel with a kick.

BBC highlights show Match of the Day claimed that Costa was retaliating after clashing with Skrtel prior to the incident occurring.

However, it is believed that referee Mark Clattenburg saw the kicking incident occur but he will not include it in his match report that he will hand in to the FA – meaning there will be no action taken.

It is looked at as a ‘let-off’ for Chelsea as any ban given would be a four-game suspension for the Spanish forward, with the 27-year-old having already being punished this campaign for another clash with Arsenal’s Gabriel.

Furthermore, Mourinho has appealed to the £50,000 fine given to him for stating that referees are ‘afraid’ to award his side with decisions going their way and he is due to find out the verdict and also the suspended stadium ban on Monday.

The 52-year-old manager is also waiting to find out whether or not he will be given a touchline suspension after being charged with misconduct after he was sent to the stands at Upton Park against West Ham United last month.
