Predicted Arsenal starting team vs Koln Giroud

Chelsea are monitoring Arsenal’s striker situation and are eyeing Olivier Giroud if the Edin Zzeko deal falls through.

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing up Arsenal star Olivier Giroud as an option if they fail to sign Roma striker Edin Dzeko.

Arsenal have been negotiating with Borussia Dortmund for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang but it’s understood they are still far away from signing him.

But, if Arsenal do sign Aubameyang, Chelsea think that Giroud could be avaliable and are keeping tabs on him just in case the Dzeko deal falls through.

Chelsea have been expected to sign Dzeko for the past few days but talks have stalled and it’s thought Dzeko has concerns over game time while Chelsea are having second thoughts about signing a striker who will be 32 in March.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that he would allow Giroud to leave the Emirates if they sign another striker. The France international has been pining for more game time with the World Cup in mind later this year.

Giroud would be a good back-up for Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata and he could even play alongside the Spanish forward in Conte’s 3-5-2 formation.

However, if Giroud has concerns for playing time, then joining Chelsea may not be an ideal choice for the Frenchman given Morata will likely be first choice.

Additionally, Giroud is just as old as Dzeko so Chelsea may have doubts over his age too.

The whole situation is a bit of a mess really but it’s going to make for an exciting few last days of the transfer window.

Giroud has scored four goals in 15 appearances this season.
