Blues have been interested in Inter Milan striker since January

Chelsea have reportedly made a formal move to sign Inter Milan forward Mauro Icardi.

The Blues have been interested in signing the Argentinian international since the January transfer window, but at the time, they were told they have no chance of signing him halfway through the season.

Roberto Mancini is desperate to keep the striker at the San Siro, but with the financial power elsewhere, a transfer away from the club is likely for the highly-rated star.

Formal Offer and Contract Snub

According to reports, Chelsea are prepared to offer around ÂŁ22million for the 22-year-old, who has netted 22 goals this season.

It’s also emerged that Icardi has snubbed a new contract offer from Inter, sparking further interest from Chelsea, who are keen to add a new striker to their team for next season.

Strikers Wanted

Jose Mourinho signed three strikers last Summer in Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba, but with the first two having injury problems and the latter potentially leaving, the champions want to bring in a new striker to help the workload.

Potential Targets

Chelsea have been linked with a few strikers in recent weeks, with Charlie Austin, Danny Ings, Rickie Lambert and Emmanuel Adebayor all shock targets according to reports.

However, it’s believed the Premier League champions are now in talks with Inter and are prepared to offer higher if needed.
