Chelsea midfielder Marco Van Ginkel has suffered cruciate ligament damage during his side’s 2-0 victory over Swindon Town in the Capital One Cup last night and the club fear that he could miss the rest of the season.

Despite originally carrying on, Van Ginkel was eventually substituted in the first-half for eventual goalscorer Ramires and initial fears are that the injury is a serious one.

After the game, the club’s assistant manager said the following: ‘It’s too early to say, but it doesn’t look good for Marco.

‘We’ll have to wait for the results of the scan, but we have at least two casualties from this evening.’

The other casualty Steve Holland was talking about is an injury to Ramires, but it is unsure what is wrong with the Brazilian, yet he is a major doubt for the London derby at the weekend against Tottenham Hotspur.

Both with have scans today on their respective injuries.
