According to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea is “on a mission” to sign young Boca Juniors center-back Aaron Anselmino this summer and is in intensive negotiations with the Argentine team. The Blues are interested in adding 19-year-old center back Anselmino, who has a high market value. Romano says Manchester United and other teams may yet bid for the player.
While AC Milan and Real Madrid were previously connected to the teenager, rumours from Argentina state that the Red Devils were prepared to activate Anselmino’s release clause in March. Anselmino’s release clause was purportedly raised to £20 million upon signing a new contract this year. Chelsea is reportedly negotiating a contract that falls short of Romano’s release clause.
Chelsea makes £25m bid for a wonderful kid from Boca Juniors
A year ago, the young player made his competitive debut after moving up through Boca’s academy ranks. His club has seen him play in ten senior games, scoring one goal. Many European clubs, including Chelsea, have apparently taken notice of his growth in the last few months. With an additional £3.1 million in add-ons, the Blues are said to have put in a bid of £25 million.
The Argentine, who can also play in midfield, committed to Boca until 2028 when he signed a new contract in January 2023. There is one issue with the agreement, according to Simon Johnson’s story in The Athletic.
The statement read, “Boca Juniors are willing to sell defender Aaron Anselmino for approximately £20 million.” Chelsea is negotiating, but for a lesser amount.
