The 22 year-old hasn’t played a competitive match for the Blues since their 3-1 win over Sunderland back in December 2012, where he suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury.

He missed out on the rest of that season and was loaned out to Spanish side Valencia for the 2012-13 season where he made 19 appearances in all competitions.

The former Barca man had made a good impression on the Blues coaches as he made a totla of 33 appearances for Chelsea in a season and a half.

However with Valenica looking to tie down the midfielder permanently, Chelsea have offered Romeu a new three year deal as Jose Mournhio sees potential. He played a part in Chelsea’s 5-0 pre-season win over Wycombe Wanderers and will likely feature in next season’s title push.

He will compete for a place in the first team against fellow Spaniard Cesc Fabregas, Ramires, John Obi Mikel and Nemanja Matic.
