Southampton have the option to sign defender but Chelsea look to ruin the party.
Chelsea look favourite to sign Toby Alderweireld in a bid to begin strengthening their defensive lines in hopes of retaining the title next season.
Southampton loaned the player from Atletico Madrid in a year-long deal, and now have the option to buy the player for an estimated £7million pound, but it seems that Chelsea will out-bid any move by the Saints.
Alderweireld has enjoyed a successful loan spell at St Mary’s which has seen him attract attention from other Premier League clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham.
It now seems the 26 year old Belgian has a decision to make over his future after he admitted that he enjoys the Premier League but has 3 options to think about.
Alderweireld Speaks on Future
He said last week: “I really want to go to a club that really wants me.
“There are three options – stay with Atletico, stay with Southampton or go to another club. So we will see what happens.
“Southampton gave me that opportunity and it paid off, I think. I’ve had a fantastic year, I can’t lie about that, so, yes, I’d like to stay in the Premier League.”
