According to John Obi Mikel, ‘99%’ of Chelsea players would be delighted if Guus Hiddink were to stay on for another season
During the Dutchman’s previous stint at Chelsea FC in 2009, they were guided to the semi-finals of the Champions League, and won the FA Cup. Hiddink is now due to leave the club once again this summer.
In the last few months, many names have been thrown into the hat for the Chelsea job which is due to be vacant, with the more ‘high-profile’ names including Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone, and Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.
Since the appointment of Hiddink, it seems that The Blues have been allowed to play much more attractive and expressive football under his influence, which was seen during this weekend’s 5-1 thrashing of Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. This result has now ensured that Chelsea will play Everton in the quarter final of the FA Cup.
It is clear to see that since Hiddink was appointed, John Obi Mikel has been a pivotal part of the club’s fantastic performances- arguably ‘flourishing’ under his new boss.
Mikel Wants Hiddink To Stay
The midfielder, who has been at the club since 2006 , stated; “Definitely I want him to stay. It is the choice of the owner, the club and the board. They will have to decide.”, adding: “let’s hope he stays”.
Probably the most notable of what the Nigerian star said was:“When you come into the training ground, the players are more relaxed. He doesn’t get into people’s business, he gets on with his own thing and players feel very comfortable and know exactly what to do so. We all know what he wants and it is the same when we go into a game. We get on the pitch and know exactly what he wants. He doesn’t stand up that much to speak.”
Evidently, Under Guus Hiddink, the dynamics at the London club have changed, not just on the pitch but behind the scenes also. There is a much more relaxed aura emanating from Chelsea FC for all to see- the Dutchman has even put a smile on Spanish ‘hard-man’ Diego Costa, with Mikel saying that “He treats us with respect. You can see Diego. It takes a lot to get Diego in a good mood!”
Chelsea’s next game is an away game facing Southampton, where they will be hoping to build on the success of recent times, and take revenge on the 3-1 loss they suffered the last time the two teams met.
