Chelsea are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema, and are prepared to pay up to £40million in order to sign the Frenchman.
The Spanish outfit are willing to listen to offers for the 26-year-old as they plan to raise funds in order to splash out on either Sergio Aguero from Manchester City, or Luis Suarez from Liverpool.
Benzema, who has been Carlo Ancelotti’s number-one option up front, has had a great season working in between Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, but it’s believed the hierarchy at the Bernabeu would rather see Aguero or Suarez playing up front with the two most expensive players in world football.
According to reports, Arsenal are heavily considering making a formal bid for the Frenchman in the Summer, but they will now face competition from Jose Mourinho’s side as they prepare to make a £40million bid in order to strengthen their attacking options.
This comes just a day after Chelsea’s main target Diego Costa confirmed that he was happy to stay at Atletico Madrid for at least another season.
Mourinho has complained heavily throughout this season about the lack of a real striker, so Benzema could be the perfect option for him as he tries to re-build yet another formidable Chelsea team.
