Chelsea ready to open talks for new left-back

Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing CSKA Moscow’s Georgi Schennikov, as they search for a suitable replacement for outgoing Ashley Cole.

The English veteran has not been offered a new deal at the club, and with only Cesar Azpilicueta as a recognised left-back, Jose Mourinho is keen to add some defensive cover to his squad, after signing an attacker and a midfielder.

Diego Costa has been joined by counterpart Cesc Fabregas, and now Mourinho is ready to add a third signing to the list in the shape of Schennikov.

The Blues were keen to replace Cole with teenager Luke Shaw, but it appears that his heart is set for a move to Manchester United, and that has forced the London club to start looking elsewhere.

The 23-year-old Russian is a highly-rated full-back, and will feature for Russia at this year’s World Cup, and it’s reported that Chelsea are willing to pay up to ÂŁ7million for his signature.

It’s reported that formal talks between the two clubs could start in the next few weeks, so that The Blues can get the transfer wrapped up quickly.
