Ray Wilkins believes David Luiz committed his red-card offence because he was afraid of Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac.

The Brazilian was given a Red by the referee for a lunging tackle on his opponent when there were three minutes of normal time left on the clock.

The sending-off has sparked debate, with Conte responding to the situation, but Wilkins believes that it was deserved.

The 60-year-old told  talkSPORT, saying that Luiz may have committed the tackle out of fear.

“It was an atrocious tackle. He either wants to hurt Kolasinac, or he’s afraid. I’ll go for the latter. He saw him coming towards him and thought, ‘wow, this fella is a giant’ and he basically wet himself.

“Kolasinac went to the floor, his boots never came off the ground, he just went for the ball. If Luiz had done that there would have been nothing wrong. It’s on the halfway line for goodness sake.”
