Chelsea star’s dad takes aim at Jose Mourinho
Chelsea star Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s father has publicly criticised former Blues boss Jose Mourinho, saying that he held back his son’s development when in charge at Stamford Bridge.
Loftus-Cheek, who is on loan at Crystal Palace, put in a Man of the Match performance on his England debut against Germany last week and is the name on everyone’s lips at the moment.
The 21 year-old’s dad spoke to the Daily Mail about his son’s development, and took aim at Mourinho for the lack of first team opportunities that he was given during his time as manager.
“Jose Mourinho held him back,” said Trevor Loftus-Cheek. “He should have been playing. Everyone behind the scenes was asking, why isn’t he playing?”
“If Ruben was playing for Mauricio Pochettino, he’d have 70, 80, 90 first team appearances by now.”
Mourinho gave Loftus-Cheek his Chelsea debut back in 2014, and started him five times whilst still a teenager before leaving at the end of 2015.
Under Antonio Conte, the midfielder featured sparingly in the Blues’ title winning campaign last season, playing just 29 minutes of Premier League football in total.
Crystal Palace have struggled this season, but the Chelsea loanee has been a bright spark and really showed just how talented he is against Germany in a fearless performance.
He could get another chance to impress tonight as England take on Brazil in another friendly. Read England vs Brazil predictions, match previews, H2H record and live stream here.
