Chelsea step up hunt for Silva

Chelsea have entered the race to sign Brazilian midfielder Lucas Silva, days after it was revealed that Real Madrid were interested in signing the Cruzeiro man to replace Sami Khedira.

Real Madrid were prepared to let Khedira go for a nominal fee in January, before his deal expires in the summer, and it was rumoured that Chelsea and Arsenal were monitoring the situation.

However, it now seems that the Blues have abandoned that chase in favour of their pursuit of Silva, as they step up their hunt for a defensive midfielder.

The uncapped Brazilian has some choices to make, and if Mourinho can persuade the 21 year-old to join the London based outfit, he would be rubbing salt in the wounds of his former employers by securing the services of the midfielder under the noses of Madrid.
