Chelsea suffer major setback in move for defensive target
Chelsea’s move for Kostas Manolas has hit an iceberg once again. The defender is set to sign a new contract at AS Roma according to various reports in Italy.
The centre-back was atop target for Antonio Conte who looked to replace David Luiz soon. The Brazilian has fallen out with the manager and is reportedly in talks with Real Madrid.
Manolas was said to be the first name on the list as The Blues have been tracking him for a long time. They have made moves for him previously but did not manage to convince him to move.
The Premier League champions hoped to use Antonio Rudiger’s friendship with him as a method of luring him to Stamford Bridge but that is off the table right now.
Chelsea fans wouldn’t be disheartened by it as they want Andreas Christensen to be their #1 choice in the heart of the defence with Kurt Zouma getting the nod ahead of Gary Cahill and David Luiz next season.
