The defender is one of the Blues’ main targets this summer

Bayern Munich’s Mehdi Benatia has claimed he would be fine to leave the club if they want to sell him.

The defender is attracting interest from several European sides but the team who are most interested in doing a deal for him is Chelsea. Antonio Conte – who is set to take over as manager after the Euros this summer – is eager to bolster most areas of the squad and he has identified Benatia as a key defensive target.

The Blues have identified several other centre-back targets including Everton’s John Stones but with the Toffees becoming increasingly less likely to sell him, they are instead looking into a move for Benatia.

Terry to leave on a free

This is because long-serving defender John Terry could be set to leave Stamford Bridge on a free at the end of the current season and Conte is eager to sign a replacement for him.

Now, Chelsea have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of the Bayern Munich man, as the 29-year old claimed he would be happy to leave the club if they decided to cash in on him this summer.

He said: “I’ve got a three-year contract, but if Bayern Munich want me to leave, no problem. If they want to stay, I’ll stay, the club knows I’m a real professional.”

The defender hasn’t had the greatest time in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern back in 2014 and the German club could decide to sell him on this summer. If they do, expect Chelsea to launch a move for him.
