Friedel could replace Petr Cech at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea could make a shock move for Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel this summer, with Petr Cech set to depart.

The Blues could well need reinforcements for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, if Cech leaves the Bridge after 11 years of service, with a number of major of European clubs interested in the 32-year-old’s services.

Friedel, 43, has made over 586 appearances in England, with clubs including Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. And Jose Mourinho could be prepared to let Cech go if they can acquire the services of their London rival’s understudy.

Chelsea are also looking at Robert Green of Queens Park Rangers, Norwich City’s John Ruddy and Craig Gordon, but Friedel could be prepared to leave after limited game-time since joining the club in 2011.
