Chelsea to make £40m bid for Manchester United star?

Chelsea are preparing to revive their interest in Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, and are reportedly ready to offer £40million for the Englishman.

The 28-year-old was wanted by Jose Mourinho last Summer after he confirmed that he wanted to leave Old Trafford in order to experience a new challenge, but just months after stating his desire to leave, Rooney then signed a new five-year deal at the club worth a staggering £300k-a-week.

However, after a dismal season under David Moyes, and now fears that he will be pushed out once Louis Van Gaal arrives, the former-Everton starlet could be set to finally leave Old Trafford with Chelsea ready to renew their interest despite signing Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

Mourinho said throughout last season that he needs to sign strikers for the club, and after agreeing a £32m deal for Costa, his attentions are now turning to Rooney and a potential £40m offer which could be accepted when the new boss arrives after the World Cup.

Reports suggest that Van Gaal will make Robin Van Persie the main man at Old Trafford, and that won’t go down well with Rooney, who wants to be captain for next season.

Despite tweeting his excitement about Van Gaal’s appointment, Rooney may be part of the mass-exodus that leaves the club this Summer once the Dutchman arrives at the club after the World Cup in Brazil, where he is head of the Netherlands side.
