Chelsea are reportedly ready to rival Manchester United to the signing of AS Roma midfielder, Kevin Strootman, and will willingly pay £30million for the Dutchman.

The strong, central-midfielder has been on United’s radar for some time now, with Sir Alex Ferguson, David Moyes and now Louis Van Gaal all interested in signing him.

However, due to serious knee issues, any move away from Roma has been prevented and he picked up yet another knee injury earlier this year, keeping him out of the World Cup in Brazil and preventing any Summer move to England.

According to reports, now Strootman is back in full-time training and back playing for the Roma first-team, both United and Chelsea are keeping their eyes on him and could both launch £30m bids in January.

Strootman has a good working relationship with Van Gaal due to their Netherlands days together, but the chance to join Jose Mourinho’s side could be too good to turn down for the 24-year-old.
