Oscar, Costa and Willian wanted to leave Stamford Bridge
Oscar, Diego Costa and Willian wanted to leave Chelsea after their title success last season, according to widespread reports.
With Jose Mourinho having been sacked by the Blues on Thursday afternoon, it is understood part of the Portuguese’s problems were with the Brazilian-born trio.
Despite having won the league so convincingly last season, Willian is the only one to have stood out in their woeful league campaign so far this season, as the club’s top scorer with seven goals.
Ten players wanted escape route
Mourinho’s problems came long before the season started, much to everyone’s surprise, after the 52-year-old’s on and off field antics. While three were ready to leave, despite heavily featuring for the Blues the previous campaign, seven others were unhappy with their situation.
Petr Cech eventually left for London rivals Arsenal, having been demoted to second choice at Chelsea, behind Thibaut Courtois. Didier Drogba ended his second spell at Stamford Bridge to move across the pond to the MLS. Juan Cuadrado and Mohamed Salah were left unhappy with the lack opportunities they found themselves under Mourinho, despite being tipped for success in west London.
Nathan Ake and Victor Moses also wanted to leave after being sent out on loan by the club on numerous occasions, such is the Blues’ lengthy list of players out on loan.
Reports suggested Mourinho lost the dressing room, but the club have also struggled in keeping all of their large squad happy when they have been left out of the side.
