Chelsea want the signing of Diego Costa to be finalised before the World Cup commences in 7 days. Chelsea have breached the buy-out clause for the 25-year-old but it is understood the club is getting frustrated at the amount of time it is taking for the transfer to be completed. A club source said: “Chelsea look forward to entering into formal transfer documentation with Atletico Madrid as soon as possible so that the player can concentrate on the World Cup.”

Chelsea want to settle the deal over the coming days to avoid the striker of being distracted by his International duties at the World Cup. The source added: “Chelsea have made an offer to Atletico Madrid in compliance with the buyout terms in Diego Costa’s contract. “We have been advised that the player has invoked a buyout clause and directed the club to accept Chelsea’s offer.”

Costa scored 36 goals in 52 appearances for Atletico Madrid last season and helped the club win their first La Liga title since 1996 and reach the Champions League Final.Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, stated that his main priority for the transfer window was a “killer” striker; and the Portuguese manager believes that Costa is the right man.

“We have to try to win as a team, to improve as a team, but also add the attacking player with that killer instinct,” Mourinho said last month. Mourinho is hoping that Costa will address the problem of strikers lacking goals at the West London club.
