Chelsea’s bid for duo rejected?

The pairing have been vital to Madrid’s campaign

According to reports, Chelsea have had a £100 million bid turned down for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale and Rapahel Varane.

The winger and the central defender have been linked with summer transfer window moves away from the Bernabeu, but for very different reasons.

It is believed that the Welsh international Bale is unhappy at the La Liga giants, with the fans often shifting their blame onto him when their team has failed this season.

A prime example is the criticism Bale received after Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to arch rivals Barcelona in last month’s El Clasico. Despite this, the 25-year old has been in scintillating for club and country, scoring 21 goals in 48 appearances so far in all competitions.

On the other hand, the French international defender Varane is looking for a move elsewhere due to his lack of first team appearances. The 21-year old has failed to break the partnership between Pepe and Sergio Ramos, even though he has performed exceptionally in their absence.

Varane has made 40 appearances in all competitions for club and country this year.

Mourinho looked to flex the financial muscle of Roman Abramovich

The Blues’ boss Jose Mourinho seems to have made an attempt to take advantage of these predicaments, to try and lure both Bale and Varane to Stamford Bridge.

However, a huge bid has apparently been turned down by the Galacticos, with manager Carlo Ancelotti obviously showing that he still believes the two can be part of his plans.

Real Madrid are currently second in La Liga, two points behind first placed Barcelona as the title race heats up. Ancelotti’s men are also into the Champions League semi-finals after beating City rivals Atletico Madrid.

Los Blancos are looking to become the first team in history to win back-to-back Champions League titles.
